Teresa Wilson Beiser was an energetic, athletic woman with an unconquerable spirit who was the picture of health and wholeness. Her life included her regular job as a lab technician, her passion job as spin instructor and of course her around the clock job as the proud parent of two active kids. Teresa was also an avid bodybuilder and cyclist and loved the outdoors. Every day was an adventure to Teresa and she took it on with great courage, a beautiful smile and an inner peace that warmed the soul. She loved everyone and encouraged those around her with her positive energy.
Friends say they saw Teresa as a devoted mom and hardworking individual, who had, after long marriage, filed for divorce. In fact, to those who looked on, her divorce even appeared amicable. But things were not as good as they appeared and in the months after the separation she was frightened enough to file a police report.
On Tuesday November 10, 2009 Teresa’s estranged husband went on a shooting rampage at her place of work. The incident, which made national news, also shut down the town of Tualatin, Legacy Hospital, and Tualatin area schools for a number of hours. In addition to Teresa, the gunman wounded two others and then took his own life. These shots echoed through-out the Portland Metro Area as the town of Tualatin, the community at large and friends and family wondered what happened.
It took almost 24 hours for it to become clear that in leaving her husband Teresa had been taking steps to break an abusive cycle of power and control. The unfortunate reality was that she had also statistically increased her chances of being murdered. Equally unfortunate is that Teresa was not just a statistic she was someone’s mother, daughter, sister, sweetheart, neighbor, teacher, friend and cycling buddy. She is painfully missed in all of those roles.
The Lancette Memorial Ride is the inspiration of Teresa’s friends and fellow cycling enthusiasts to honor a dream Teresa had of becoming the female Lance Armstrong (and therefore a “Lancette”.) It is a dream that many thought she would have achieved if she had lived. Through this ride Teresa’s tenacity for achieving her dreams and her caring heart are brought together in a challenging cycling event that is raising awareness of domestic violence and support for Clackamas Women’s Services who is committed to empowering women and children to live lives free from family violence.
We feel blessed by the time we where given to walk along side this angel. She will always be alive in our hearts, and our memories
of her are everlasting. WE LOVE YOU TERESA!
I WANT TO BECOME TERESA'S FRIEND
The Lancette Memorial Ride is the vision of the
firends and family of avid cyclist Teresa Wilson Beiser who tragically
lost her life on November 10, 2009. In order to bring something positive to this tragic situation, these
friends decided to create this ride and partner with CWS as a way to
both support our organization and inform people about issues surrounding
domestic violence.
This "self sponsored" event created the Friend's of Teresa
to give our community the opportunity to join us in honoring this
amazing woman as well as support the Clackamas Women's Services. It's
impossible to read Teresa's story, learn about the out come of domestic
violence without being moved. Don't think
that your donation is to small. Donate
$25, $50 or even $1,000, every bit helps. This is a tax deductible donation.
We Believe That If Each Of You Will Do Just A Little, Together We Will Do A Lot!
